Pakistan President: Asif Ali Zardai : Biography

Asif Ali Zardari is currently the president of Pakistan elected through the electoral college of Pakistan in 2008 for the term of five years. President.pk gives you the complete official president biography. He is the widower of Benazir Bhutto, who twice served as Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Family Background:

Asif Zardari belongs to a Shia Muslim family from Nawabshah in Sindh. His fathers name is Hakim Ali Zardari.

Occupation and political background:

Asif once served as a member of the National Assembly, and he was at one point the Minister of Environment during Benazir Bhutto's second term as the Prime Minister (1993–1996). He also served as a Senator until the October 1999 coup by General Pervez Musharraf, in which Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was ousted and the Senate and assemblies were both dissolved. Marriage With Benazir Bhutto:

In Pakistan we give more respect to married women than to single women. Additionally, a single woman would not be allowed to be head of state. This reality helped Benazir make the decision to agree to an arranged marriage. Benazir had met Asif five days before the public announcement of their planned winter wedding. On December 18, 1987, at the Clifton Palace garden in Karachi, Pakistan, Benazir and Asif had an almost traditional Pakistani wedding.

On Sept. 6,2008 Mr. Asif Ali Zardari won election as president of Pakistan, giving him the opportunity to govern Pakistan. He declared himself in favor of continuing the alliance with the United States that had been forged under former president Pervaiz Musharraf, and launched an aggressive campaign against the Taliban and Islamic extremists who had seized much of the country's wild westernmost provinces.

Asif Ali Zardari and Benazir Bhutto have a son and two daughters.

Bilawal (Son): He was born in September 1988. After the death of his mother, Benazir, Bilawal was appointed co-chairman with his father, Asif, of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP).
